Game Played On: Sunday, 29th July 2018
Recommended Team Size: 2-4 Players
Kid Friendly: Yes
Game Duration: 60 Min.
Booking Method: Online
Start Time: On Time
Who is this for: Families, Beginners, Searchers
Live Actor: No
Public Transportation: Some
Parking: Street parking – some
We parked at the meter outside. There was ample parking in the near vicinity.
I would not recommend more than 4 players within this experience due to game flow. While there are some dark themes, families with kids 12+ should be OK. Please note you are blindfolded and shackled to begin this experience.
Venue / Lobby Info:
Walking down the long ramp to the garden level / basement entrance, we found ourselves in a clean, modern looking lobby. With the glass fronts, ample daylight entered the space, making us forget we had to go down to enter the venue. There was ample seating (and pillows!) throughout the lobby, making a comfortable waiting area for 6-8 players.
Public Restrooms: Yes
Notes for People with Disabilities:
Call prior to booking. Must be comfortable in dark spaces.
Game Introduction: We are investigating Jack the Ripper... now we need to escape before we become the next victim!
Operator Intro: Interesting
Theme: Investigation, Crime, Mystery,_crime, mystery
Narrative: Escape a Specific Unpleasant Place
Main room first glance: OK
We are shackled and blindfolded within the main room. Without giving the game away, please note you are playing in a dim/dark space for roughly half the experience.
Flow: Good Flow - one thing leads to another. Sometime not clear
Mostly linear in nature, this experience slowly unfolds, sharing the story of Jack the Ripper and his victims. It's a beautifully paced and elegantly staged take on the story.
Puzzles: Good puzzles
Some of the puzzles were on theme, and the amount of thought was impressive. Other puzzles had some great ideas, but could have been implemented in better ways. One puzzle had issues in games prior to us playing, with several instructions being given on how to operate/solve this single puzzle within the room (thankfully!).
Unique take on very popular themes - narrative makes sense - some puzzles were great
Room felt old / outdated (needs a refresh!) - We had too many people for this linear experience (book no more than 4) - MindEscape advertises as not needing to know English for their rooms, but this room requires a significant amount of reading/understanding English (in the dark) - More light sources should be provided
Hints & Clues, Debrief
Quality: Good (things made sense)
Closure & Debrief: Very Good
MindEscape delivers a mystery/spooky take on the investigation side of Jack the Ripper. We went into the experience thinking we were going to find ourselves in a horror room, and were pleasantly surprised to unfold a playable narrative. To get the most out of this experience, be sure to book with no more than 4 players.
Did You Escape: Yes
