GuReview - Escape The Hydeout

Ease Of Booking :
Email confirmation was received. We were provided tickets for this game via media discount at the discretion of the business, in return for a comprehensive review of the game.
Lobby : The lobby of Mission Escape was a little plain, with a strong 'office' feel to it. If they cleared off the coffee table, the waiting area could have easily been a doctor's office, lawyer, or any other company. That being said, it was newly renovated and felt very clean. There were sofas and a large TV screen off to the left side of the lobby, where our team waited for the game to begin.
Hospitality : We were greeted immediately upon entry, and the ball got rolling fairly quickly. There is no food served within the escape room facility - however, there are ample choices along the avenue outside. Restrooms were clean.
Time Keeping : Our game started on time.
Briefing Details : While still in the lobby area, our GM played for us a video going over the rules for the escape room. After the rules were stated, a quick Q&A session cleared up any questions that our seasoned group of players had about the experience. The GM remained calm, collected, and answered all of our questions. The rest of the briefing... happened once we were in the room. Without going into too many details, an auditory briefing is issued immediately upon entry to the game room.
Operator Intro : Interesting
Pleasant, professional, prompt, and a level of patience rarely seen. We didn't feel rushed, and the GM acted as if he was enjoying himself.
The Game :
Well thought out with a beautiful set, the auditory elements were a pleasant and unique surprise. The puzzles made sense, the game had excellent flow. I would recommend this room for 2-3 experienced players, or a group of 4-5 players with little/no escape room experience. If this was a group's first room, their standards would be very high for future games.
The Venue :
Mission Escape Games, no matter the location, set the standard for the area. Their rooms are unique and challenging, with beautiful set designs. This new location in CT does not disappoint, and I am excited to see more rooms open here.
Main Room - First Glance :
The main room for this experience was set up to look like a classic parlor. There was an older style chair, bookcases, fireplace, globe, and chessboard within the room. Several pieces of artwork decorated the walls. I have NEVER seen an office space decorated to this degree before in any escape room. It was truly immersive to the point of forgetting that you were in an office space. I was very, very impressed. While the set may not be elaborate, it was clean and unexpected. There were no exposed wires, and it was rather difficult to tell what kind of puzzles we had in store for us. A few locks were visible upon first entry, but there had to be more than what meets the eye!
Excellent flow - flawless and coherent
Our experienced group of four got hung up on the very first puzzle to start the game for nearly 10 minutes! However, once we overcame that obstacle, it was smooth sailing from there. The flow was unexpected but made sense, with no real leaps of logic. Our team was excited to see how effortless this game flowed, and it made us truly enjoy the game experience.
Some of them were great (matched promised level)
I loved how this room captured the feeling of 'classic escape rooms' while integrating technology, without the tech overwhelming the set design. This was obviously a delicate, well thought out balance, thanks to an amazing game designer. The room was challenging but solvable, and several puzzles stayed on theme to the game. Overall, it was fun with some unique elements.
Hints & Clues : 3 hints via television set.
Policy: Strict Policy
Hints & Clues Quality: The GM waited for us to ask for a clue prior to giving us one. The clues were concise and prompt, showing us that the GM was very attentive to our group.
Quality: Excellent (They have advanced the game, built-in escalation, no answer-disclosing)
Closure & Debrief :
With 22 minutes left on the clock, our team managed to complete the escape room. The GM came into the room, went over some of the smaller details we had missed during the game play, and answered all of our questions. We felt victorious! Our photos were taken within the main room after we completed our Q&A session.
Venue Description: The venue is located on a busy shopping avenue, on the 2nd floor of a commercial space. There was ample signage outside to confirm we were in the correct location. The doors were clearly marked, and a standing sign was placed outside the front door.
Public Transportation : N/A
I am not from the area, so I am not sure.
Parking : Street parking – lots of it| Paid parking, next to the venue
It was Sunday, so the metered parking across the street from the venue was free for the day!
