While the website allows booking of groups up to 10 players, I would recommend no more than 4-5 experienced players. This is a moderately difficult room - I would recommend this game to players who have already played a few others and understand how Escape Rooms flow.
Venue / Lobby Info:
Spacious, welcoming multi room space awaits as soon as you enter the lobby. Clean and with plenty of seating while you wait for your teammates to arrive!
Public Restrooms: Yes
Notes for People with Disabilities:
Call prior to booking. At least one team member must be comfortable lying down/crouching.
Game Introduction: A short video upon entry goes into the story of King Midas and the adventure you're about to embark on.
Operator Intro: Exciting - takes you into the story
Theme: Fantasy / Fiction
Main room first glance: Nice & Neat!
We begin the game in a well lit, clean, expansive 'throne room' of the castle. Shields hang on the wall, and there is evidence of Midas' touch throughout.
Flow: Very Good and coherent flow
With multiple starting points, the flow of the room is determined by the players for the first half of the game. It then switches to a linear experience, which limits the number of active participants at about the 30-35 minute mark. The puzzles are aligned in a manner that we are able to tell what each task is, and how to proceed onto the next step of our quest.
Puzzles: Some of them were great (matched promised level)
Ranging in difficulty from easy to moderate, this was one of the most logic puzzle - intensive rooms we've seen in the Hartford CT area thus far in our Escape Room careers. Don't be scared to use your whiteboard - you're going to need it! A 'typical' Escape Room rule is broken during game play.
Beautiful beginning sequence allows for three separate groups of players to work on puzzles at the same time - welcoming first room - clear end goal for the room completion - designers paid close attention to room details
Bottleneck at about minute 35 limits the number of active participants for the remainder of the experience - Players must have a very strong grasp of the English language to participate in several puzzles within the experience
Hints & Clues, Debrief
Closure & Debrief: Very Good
Codeword Escape is a wonderful addition to the Escape Room community in CT. With a welcoming lobby, hands on owners, and unique games, we are excited to see what future games are opened at this location. Pro Tip: Codeword Escape is public booking unless you'd like to shell out $249. I would recommend booking at an off-time for a private, more enjoyable experience.
Did You Escape: Yes
