GuReview - Pirate Adventure: Escape The Kraken
by Gureviewer: Margarita Orlov
Ease Of Booking :
Booking online is very easy. Full disclosure: the group was provided with comp tickets for the purposes of this review.
Lobby : Nicely decorated lobby. Modern, clean, welcoming, with seating and waiting puzzles.
Hospitality : Lockers were available for storage and bathroom was right down the hallway.
Time Keeping : We arrived and started on time.
Briefing Details : Intro was given by the gamemaster and a video played once we were inside the room that further explained the theme and objective. The story was that our band of pirates had gotten in trouble and unleashed a terrible beast! We then had to escape the Kraken's cave before it came back to devour us.
Operator Intro : Exciting - takes you into the story
Very friendly and welcoming. Ran the game well.
The Game :
A beautifully constructed pirate themed game that will be enjoyed by both beginners and experienced players. Has plenty of puzzles, some cool interactions, and is overall very fun. Note however that this room would be less enjoyable will a full group of 10 people. I'd recommend up to 6.
The Venue :
Nice place, well kept up, and easy to find.
Main Room - First Glance :
The cave of the Kraken. Dim and cold, as you may imagine an underwater cave to be! Great set pieces that immediately took us into the game.
Excellent flow - flawless and coherent
The flow of the game was good. We always knew what we were looking to do next, and it never felt stagnant. Puzzles intuitively led from one to another, and there were multiple things going on at once to keep everyone occupied.
Well thought of. Intriguing
A few standout interactions kept us excited, and the puzzles were well integrated into the room. Some were more unique than others, but we had a few nice a-ha moments. There were a decent amount of combination locks but they were interspersed with well-placed tech as well.
Hints & Clues : Unlimited. No penalty for hints.
Policy: Loose or no policy
Hints & Clues Quality: Presented through screen. Hints given upon request and were good at pointing us in the right direction without giving the answer.
Quality: Excellent (They have advanced the game, built-in escalation, no answer-disclosing)
Closure & Debrief :
Got a quick debrief and time to ask questions.
Venue Description: A storefront at a small shopping center off the highway, with clearly visible signage.
