GuReview - Shelter R
by Gureviewer: rachelklepadlo
Ease Of Booking :
Booking through the website about a month in advance with no issues.
Lobby : This escape room has a black/white keyhole themed lobby, and it is one of the most comfortable, spacious lobbies in the area. For large parties and events, 20+ people can comfortably sit or stand around, without being on anyone's toes. There is a receptionist desk at the far side of the lobby, with the control room directly behind.
Hospitality : While they do not sell food or drinks, the employees have a stack of all takeout places that deliver to the venue. The single unisex restroom is at the rear of the facility, up a half flight of stairs.
Time Keeping : Our games started on time.
Briefing Details : We are in a bunker, and running out of air. We have 60 minutes to escape!
Operator Intro : Interesting
Great GM, kept the immersive factor going strong.
The Game :
Full disclosure: We played this room during Beta testing in late 2016, and were super excited to replay the room in its entirety in 2018. This is our first room ever being replayed. With ~150 rooms between late 2016 and now, it was great to revisit a positive experience. We were surprised that we needed a clue, even after playing before!
The Venue :
This facility is well run and maintained, and it is wonderful to see them improve their games over time.
Main Room - First Glance :
Gritty and beautiful at the same time, the main room of this game is visually impressive. Fans of 'Fallout' and 'The 100' will truly appreciate the scenery involved here. The main room is big enough for 4 people to truly explore and engage with, without stepping on toes.
Very Good and coherent flow
The flow of this game is rather obvious, due to the placement of placards throughout the game assisting you in your tasks. Instead of taking away from the puzzles, they nudge you in the right direction. Sometimes, the instructions seem too far-fetched, adding a 'wow' factor to the tasks at hand.
Well thought of. Intriguing
Not your typical escape room puzzles, expect to engage with the room and environment in ways you have never seen in other adventures, even by the same company. Three puzzles within this room have rather physical components, so be prepared! Pants are preferred while playing in this room. Some of the puzzles are truly amazing, and there is only one (rather well done) leap of logic.
Hints & Clues : Ask, and you shall receive, via room-themed speaker system. Very, very well done.
Policy: Some Rules
Hints & Clues Quality: We needed one clue, and it was well received without just telling us what to do.
Quality: Excellent (They have advanced the game, built-in escalation, no answer-disclosing)
Closure & Debrief :
With about 13 minutes left on the clock, our experienced team of four players escaped! The ending of this room is fabulous, and I cannot give it away.
Venue Description: On a block of brownstones, there is one building with a glass storefront - this is Brooklyn Escape. I felt like I was on a TARDIS - the game rooms and facility are SO MUCH BIGGER on the inside.
Public Transportation : Excellent
Walking distance from the N,D,R,2,3,4,5,LIRR (Atlantic Terminal)
Parking : Street parking – some| Paid parking – remote (5 min. walk+)
There is parking inside the mall nearby, or take a chance on street parking.
Theme: fantasy_/ fiction
