GuReview - The Mission
by Gureviewer: rachelklepadlo
Game Played On: Friday, 23rd March 2018
Recommended Team Size: 3-5 Players
Kid Friendly: Yes
Game Duration: 60 Min.
Booking Method: Online
Start Time: On Time
Who is this for: Families, Enthusiasts, Searchers, Thrill Seekers
Live Actor: No
Public Transportation: Excellent
There are 15 subways within walking distance of Exit - it is a few blocks away from Times Square.
Parking: Only street parking – well-packed, Paid parking, next to the venue
Try not to drive in, if you can. Parking is very expensive here.
This room was on the more difficult side - for less skillful players, I would recommend playing 'High Speed' first. However - we had one first timer on our team, who was able to figure out puzzles the rest of our experienced team was not able to.
Venue / Lobby Info:
The lobby is located upstairs in a large office building. There is a door man on staff most of the time, otherwise there's an intercom to buzz you in. There is an elevator to take you to the 7th floor. There is enough seating for ~8 people to wait in the lobby comfortably, and there are restrooms down the hall outside of the suite.
Public Restrooms: Yes
Notes for People with Disabilities:
Building is ADA compliant. The escape rooms may have some elements that aren't. Call ahead prior to booking. There are some tight spaces within the game.
Game Introduction: Our GM gave us a quick runthrough of the scenario - we are trying to catch a spy!
Operator Intro: Exciting - takes you into the story
Narrative: Gather Intelligence or Espionage
Main room first glance: OK
This is one of those escape room experiences where the build up throughout the game is much more exciting than what is in front of you at first glance. Without giving anything away - I felt disappointed when I entered the game, but that disappointment was fleeting.
Flow: Very Good and coherent flow
It took our team a few minutes to figure out what we had to do - once we caught a trail of the puzzles, there was enough happening to keep 4-5 members of our 7 person team busy at all times. There are two distinct puzzle paths for a significant part of the first half of the game, which was very welcome and kept us from standing around.
Puzzles: Well thought of. Intriguing
While easy in theory, some of the puzzles in this room became more difficult once we attempted to solve them! This room has some challenging puzzles, and is not recommended for beginner players. The puzzles and set became more interesting as the game progressed.
Entertaining game flow able to keep experienced players busy - different take on the 'spy' mission
The main room truly needs some atmosphere or refreshing - it does not match the rest of the game experience.
Hints & Clues, Debrief
Method: Walkie Talkie
Quality: Excellent (They have advanced the game, built-in escalation, no answer-disclosing)
Closure & Debrief: Excellent (Catharsis)
If you're looking for a difficult but well thought out escape room experience, take a stop at Exit. This room is a great example of how escape rooms need to be creative in NYC to make spaces work for them. This is not your typical 'spy mission' - be prepared for an amazing experience.
Did You Escape: Yes
