The Game
Game Introduction: Escape within 30 minutes, or else face a $50 no show charge.
Operator Intro: Exciting - takes you into the story
Theme: Cartoon / Anime
Narrative: Escape a Specific Unpleasant Place
Main room first glance: Nice & Neat!
Smaller than the other two experiences, we walk into a small waiting area/lobby of a doctor's office. Believable and clean, the set fits perfectly with the theme.
Flow: Very Good and coherent flow
There is so much to do and discover in this room - having 30 minutes to do it seems almost unfair to non experienced players! Once you've solved a puzzle path, it may take a moment or two in order to pick up the next starting point.
Puzzles: Some of them were great (matched promised level)
Puzzles ranged in difficulty from very easy to moderate. Don't let the 30 minute time limit fool you - every inch of this room has a puzzle to explore!
Game Strengths:
interesting theme - comedic relief - great use of space
Game Weaknesses:
several puzzles felt old or outdated - no wow factor +/- A working knowledge of the English language is needed, more so than in other games
Hints & Clues, Debrief
Method: In-Person
Quality: Excellent (They have advanced the game, built-in escalation, no answer-disclosing)
Closure & Debrief: Excellent (Catharsis)
Final Thoughts:
THE WAITING ROOM OF DR. AWK C. ABMOOR was my first 30 minute Escape Room experience where I wasn't sure if I would be able to complete all the tasks in time! (we did!) With so much to do, and so little time, it's a great way for more experienced players to introduce the world of Escape Rooms in a non-threatening, light hearted environment. When visiting Chicago, make sure to check out Escape Factor!
