Game Played On: Monday, 5th March 2018

Recommended Team Size: 2-4 Players

Kid Friendly: Yes

Game Duration: 60 Min.

Booking Method: Online

Start Time: On Time

Who is this for: Families, Enthusiasts, Beginners, Searchers, First date

Live Actor: No

Public Transportation: N/A

Parking: Venue Free Parking

There is a gigantic parking lot, where the first puzzle is figuring out where you parked your car vs. the venue location.

Overview Notes:

This is a kid friendly room, where children will have plenty of opportunities for a fun experience. There's enough 'meat' in this game to keep a group of 2-4 adults busy, and would be a great date night room for anyone who grew up visiting the Jersey Shore as a kid.

The Venue

Venue / Lobby Info:

Within the parking complex, there are dozens of other businesses surrounding the parking lot. Drive around for a bit and try to park close to Escape Garden State. We parked on the far side of the lot, adding a significant walk to the beginning of our game. There is a large lobby with campfire benches, TV screen to go over the rules, and plenty of seating. It is comfortable for groups to congregate prior to game play.

Public Restrooms: Yes

Refreshments: No

Notes for People with Disabilities:

Several puzzles will not be possible to be completed from a seated position. There is a place to sit within the game for those who need to take a break/rest. There is active construction going on in the common area between rooms - while it was impeccably clean, I would wait for construction to be complete if anyone in your party has breathing issues. If special accommodations are needed, please call the venue in advance.

The Game

Game Introduction: We are on the Jersey Shore boardwalk, and need to evacuate!

Operator Intro: Exciting - takes you into the story

Theme: Action

Narrative: Survive!

Main room first glance: Wow!

We start out the game in a 'beach cabana' filled with swim gear, fishing supplies, etc;. It is extremely bright colored and pleasant - probably one of the brightest rooms I've ever been in. Automatically, it seems like this will be a fun, pleasant game experience. The room grabbed my attention, and off into the immersive experience we go!

Flow: Good Flow - one thing leads to another. Sometime not clear

At each point within the game, we had a clear idea of the task at hand. With the way the game played out, at two points we had puzzles solved prior to unlocking the instructions or clues for said puzzle. This led to a few puzzles feeling unnecessary.

Puzzles: Some of them were great (matched promised level)

I am in love with the various tasks we came across within this experience. Several puzzles are task based, where the instructions are simple, but the execution led to be more difficult than expected. Overall, it was a little frustrating but a lot of fun!

Game Strengths:

Kid friendly - Lots of puzzles that didn't require long instructions - Bright colors - Unique Games

Game Weaknesses:

Puzzles were able to be skipped or solved outside of intended order - one puzzle in particular was overly complex/difficult compared to the rest of the experience - the story line was lost within the fun nature of the bulk of the game. I wished there was a bit more 'escaping the shore' to do.

Hints & Clues, Debrief

Method: Other

Quality: Excellent (They have advanced the game, built-in escalation, no answer-disclosing)

Closure & Debrief: Excellent (Catharsis)

Final Thoughts:

If you are looking for a fun game to introduce escape rooms to kids (or you're an adult that wants to act like a kid!), this is the room to go to. It's not terribly complicated or puzzle heavy, but it is a very fun, satisfying experience.
