The Story

You will find yourself in an old abandoned house, where long ago a family with 7 young girls lived. One day the youngest sister died under strange circumstances. The next day the remaining six sisters were found dead one by one. Till this day, no one knows what really happened to them and the house remains abandoned. Neighbors claim that at night, the cry of a child can be heard from within; that the silhouette of a little girl can be seen in the window; that the place is cursed and inside horrible, painful things await those who enter… Are you brave enough to step inside and uncover the horrible truth?

Ease Of Booking :

I had to change times on some games, and their admin made it super easy!

Entrance Rating:

Lobby : The lobby for Komnata is similar to their other locations - barren, dark, yet somehow inviting. There is ample seating for about 12 people inside the lobby, but the staff is very good at controlling the customers and keeping them in their groups while they wait. The lobby for the building is very well kept, the stairs leading up to the 2nd floor havent been renovated in decades. *Not Komnata's fault*

Hospitality : We had an excellent game host, who kept us both on track to play all 3 games at the location. While no refreshments were served, there were several places within walking distance to grab a bite. In between games we had enough time to run to the Duane Reade around the corner for drinks. There is a unisex bathroom outside the door of Komnata on the 2nd floor of the building. It was relatively clean with little wait to use.

Time Keeping : Our game started on time

Briefing Details : We had the most animated gamemaster ever, who truly got into the story he was telling. He told us there was a little girl who died, and we were going to figure out what happened! We were also instructed that the first door will remain unlocked, so if we get scared we can leave (but cannot return into the game).

Operator Intro : Exciting - takes you into the story

Operators :

I have never had a better game master.

The Game :

The puzzles were easy to complete, truly enough work for only one or two people. However, the set design is PERFECT for this game. For Halloween, if you are looking for an actor-free, scary experience - this is the game to play.

The Venue :

Once we were able to find the venue, it was perfect. Better/Bigger/Clearer signage is needed

Main Room - First Glance :

Wow!

We begin in a bathroom, covered in blood. All. The. Blood. I cannot go into further detail into the main room without giving the missions away. I am a horror buff - I love haunted houses, scary movies, fright nights... this room was one of the scariest experiences in my life.

Flow :

Very Good and coherent flow

The flow of the game is auditory driven, so those who are hard of hearing will have some difficulty in figuring out what/where to go next. The game makes sense, leading you through this horribly awesome experience.

Puzzles :

Well thought of. Intriguing

Komnata was brilliant in creating a super scary experience, with task driven puzzles that met or exceeded my expectations of the game, without leaving you stuck shaking through a difficult task. The tasks were on the easier side of the Komnata scale.

Hints & Clues : We can ask for hints and may get answers.

Policy: Loose or no policy

Hints & Clues Quality: We truly got stuck on one puzzle out of fear-brain, and you could 'almost' hear the ghosts laughing at us. The gamemaster was amazing at giving us clues only when we actually needed them.

Quality: Excellent (They have advanced the game, built-in escalation, no answer-disclosing)

Closure & Debrief :

Excellent (Catharsis)

Our team managed to escape with almost 10 minutes left on the clock. 99.9% of this room was completed by one member of our three person team, as myself and our other teammate were utterly useless due to fear in this game. If you ever wanted to solo a Komnata room, this room is doable with one person. Ideally, a team of 2-4 players will have a really good time, especially if you have one or two people that become frozen in fear. The ending to this room is glorious and a visual treat, with the gamemaster meeting up with us after to guide us out of the terror.
