The Story

"Nitr0,” heard the name? If you haven’t, you’re about to learn. In fact, all of America might soon find it plastered across their TV screens. Nitr0 is the world’s greatest hacker, he’s successfully completed over 300 cyber crimes, yet the FBI doesn’t have any leads to his identity. Early this morning a video was received at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Nitr0 informed the Bureau of his plan to release a virus that will drain 100 million United States bank accounts of over $75 billion. You are FBI Agent Alex Vargas, a fresh face in the Cyber Crime Unit. Fueled by optimism and a need for success, you determine that taking down Nitr0 would be the best way to climb the ladder to the top. You’ve received an anonymous lead, apparently Nitr0 has been tracked to an apartment in Cambridge. It’s a long shot, but it’s the only thing you’ve got. You arrive outside and discover what looks to be an average American college apartment. A powerful clack comes from the door, it’s been sealed shut. The television turns on and Nitr0 himself appears on the screen. He tells you that he was the one who tipped you off about the location, he’s setting you up and in one hour the FBI will trace everything back to you in this apartment. The realization is setting in, the biggest virtual heist in history is about to be pinned on you. You know that Nitr0 always provides a kill code for every crime in case things go awry. You must find that code, kill the program and escape within the hour. So you don’t take the fall for the biggest crime in American history.

Ease Of Booking :

Emailed Escapology to reserve our room, paid upon arrival. Super simple process!

Entrance Rating:

Lobby : Escapology has the largest lobby I have ever been in. With seating for roughly 40+ people, it was an amazing 'WOW!' first impression. It was large, but warm and comfortable. It was also incredibly busy with a few dozen people at any given time! This was the most hustle/bustle I have ever seen at an escape room, and it made the experience feel exciting!

Hospitality : We were offered 'Escapology' water bottles both before and after our gaming experience. Male/Female separate restrooms were available at this location, and were well maintained.

Time Keeping : Our game started on time

Briefing Details : We were led into the room by a GM, and given a quick round of do's and dont's for the room. After she left, a short video played, giving us the back story of the room we were about to play. The video was short enough to keep our attention, but long enough to build an exciting story.

Operator Intro : Exciting - takes you into the story

Operators :

The owner of the facility was pleasant, friendly, and very dedicated to his business. His staff, while obviously new and on the younger side compared to most venues, were having a lot of fun and kept us good company. Overall, it was a pleasant encounter. While these puzzles and rooms are available throughout the country (and soon to be world), a well trained, pleasant staff truly sets this venue apart.

The Game :

I wasn't sure what to expect from Escapology - it is a new franchise to our area, and the North East doesn't have very many good franchises. I was surprised at how well the game flowed, and really makes me reconsider my stance on franchise vs. private escape rooms. For those looking for a 'good' franchise - Escapology is putting out a great product. They are affordably priced, comfortable rooms, and the puzzles make sense.

The Venue :

With an expansive lobby, clean restrooms, pleasant staff, and solid games - we look forward to coming back and playing other rooms at this location.

Main Room - First Glance :

Looks Good

The initial room we entered looked like a typical dorm room, with a couch, bookcase, and TV against the wall. Nothing quite stood out, but it was pleasant not to see a bunch of locks poking out everywhere! If anything, the blandness of the room made the story line more believable.

Flow :

Very Good and coherent flow

Linear in nature with a quick pace, this room is set up to be a duet's time trial room. Relatively simple to understand what's next, it kept 2-3 members of our group of 5 busy at any point in time. I would not recommend teams larger than 4 in this room, unless it was a family with smaller children.

Puzzles :

Some of them were great (matched promised level)

This room uses a mix of high tech, low tech, and innovative puzzles to create a unique experience. While no puzzle in this room was exceptionally 'unique', when played, it was a very pleasant experience. The blend kept us on our feet, and we weren't quite sure what to expect within each room. One puzzle in particular stumped us for a few minutes, but the solution was explained post-game by the owner.

Hints & Clues : Ask and you shall receive via TV monitor

Policy: Some Rules

Hints & Clues Quality: Additional hints beyond their limit cause a 2 minute time penalty, but do not disqualify you from their high score board.

Quality: Excellent (They have advanced the game, built-in escalation, no answer-disclosing)

Closure & Debrief :

Excellent (Catharsis)

Finishing this game with about 20 minutes to spare, our group of 5 felt accomplished. The owner came in post game and walked us through some of the game elements that we had breezed through or had issues with, and was very hands-on with us. This personal attention really set Escapology apart from other franchises in the area. We were then led out into the lobby, where water + bracelets were waiting for us!
