GuReview - The Surgery

Ease Of Booking :

Booked about a month in advance online, with no problems.

Entrance Rating:

Lobby : The lobby of Puzzle Parlour is absolutely beautiful - it is truly a parlour. They have several couches set up, with games to play while waiting. It is one of the most comfortable lobbies I have ever seen.

Hospitality : We had a wonderful game host, who was both friendly and talkative. He truly cared about his rooms, and it showed every minute that we were at the venue. There are separate restrooms for men and women, with a few stalls in each. Even the restrooms were pretty compared to others that we have been to. While no refreshments are to be had at the venue, our host recommended a nearby restaurant for food afterwards.

Time Keeping : Our games started on time.

Briefing Details : Once we were led into the room, a short one minute intro video played. It was just long enough to keep our interest, and give us some back story to the room we were about to play.

Operator Intro : Interesting

Operators :

Professional, friendly, caring staff and owner. It shows in every detail of our time at Puzzle Parlour.

The Game :

Well thought out, amazing flow, and enough puzzles to keep our experienced group occupied!

The Venue :

Beautiful lobby, well kept rooms... We look forward to returning and playing the new rooms opening up here later in the spring!

Main Room - First Glance :

Looks Good

The first room of the game was that of a medical office's lobby. While nothing was particularly 'WOW' about it... I don't know exactly what would make a doctor's office lobby be 'WOW'. The room and decor fit the theme very well, and didn't disclose much about the future game experience to be had. I did like that the initial room was large enough for 5 adults to move about comfortably.

Flow :

Excellent flow - flawless and coherent

This is where Puzzle Parlour exceeded our expectations. The flow to their room was smooth, and allowed our experienced team of 5 players to remain engaged throughout. This is hard to do!!! It was impressive.

Puzzles :

Well thought of. Intriguing

I wasn't quite sure what kind of puzzles to expect, but I was impressed by the facility's ability to keep them on theme for the entirety of the experience. This is a hard feat to do, and it was done very well. Some of the puzzles were easier to figure out than others, with some unique elements that were pleasant to see.

Hints & Clues : Ask, and you shall receive.

Policy: Some Rules

Hints & Clues Quality: While we were able to escape without using any clues, the GM did nudge us in the right direction when we had issues with one puzzle. He was careful not to disclose the answer, and I was appreciative of that.

Quality: Excellent (They have advanced the game, built-in escalation, no answer-disclosing)

Closure & Debrief :

Excellent (Catharsis)

With 23 minutes left on the clock, our experienced team of 5 players were able to escape. The GM met us within the room of the last puzzle for photos!
